Research Opportunities from the CommunEcology Newsletter

Human Ecology students who will participate in research with Human Ecology faculty members in the summer of 2013 are invited to apply for a limited number of $4000 stipends. The selection process is competitive. The stipend provides for the student’s own support while they complete 8 weeks of full-time research supervised by a Human Ecology faculty member. Concurrent enrollment in summer courses is not permitted. Applicants must be enrolled in Human Ecology in the Spring 2013 term, in good academic standing, and as an undergraduate Human Ecology student in the Fall 2013 term. Students enrolled in other colleges or Human Ecology students whose research will be supervised by a faculty member in another college are not eligible to apply. We are currently looking for undergraduates who are interested in data management for nutrition and health outcomes research. The Human Ecology Education, Assessment, and Design in Games Lab is looking for Research Assistants for the semester. The lab is currently working on producing an educational video game to teach high school biology and assessing its educational impact. The game will be deployed this semester, and RAs would be expected to help analyze the data, as well as read and discuss current work on education and game design. Join us on Friday, January 25, 2013 from noon to 12:30 PM EST to learn about paid summer research opportunities at the Drexel University School of Public Health. Representatives from Drexel University School of Public Health’s Opening Doors Health Disparities Program will be presenting information on how current sophomores and juniors (who will be juniors or seniors in the fall of 2013) from any U.S. accredited college/university can apply for paid summer research opportunities to work with faculty on projects related to health disparities. We are looking for two motivated undergraduate research assistants to assist with research on causal reasoning in exchange for research credit. The hours are flexible, but students will be required to participate in weekly lab meetings (time to be decided) and one weekly meeting with the graduate student leading the projects. Both students must be willing to enroll for at least 2 credit hours of research credit and commit to two semesters on either project. Research tasks include assisting with the design of research materials, collecting data, entering data, and assisting with literature reviews. Both research projects concern how individuals evaluate evidence when deciding what caused an event to occur.
